How to Calculate GPA
Your Grade Point Average (GPA) is a weighted average that represents your academic performance. It is calculated by dividing the total number of grade points earned by the total number of credit hours attempted.
The 4.0 Grading Scale
Most universities use a standard 4.0 scale. Our calculator follows this common conversion:
- A: 4.0
- A-: 3.7
- B+: 3.3
- B: 3.0
- B-: 2.7
- C+: 2.3
- C: 2.0
- D: 1.0
- F: 0.0
Why Credits Matter
GPA is "weighted," meaning a 4-credit course has a larger impact on your GPA than a 1-credit lab. To find your GPA manually, multiply the numerical grade by the credits for each course, sum them up, and divide by your total credits.
